John Kozeluh, 49 years of age, of Westchester, Illinois and Lana Grey, 38 years of age of Westchester, Illinois were arrested and charged with Violation of the Cemetery Protection Act/Remove Cemetery Item for Resell, Theft and Criminal Damage to Cemetery mausoleum doors.
On July 06, 2026, the Forest Park Police Department received a report of brass doors being stolen from mausoleums at a cemetery located in the Village of Forest Park.
Detectives began an investigation into this crime, and the department received reports of similar theft incidents in the weeks that followed at cemeteries within the Village. Investigators learned that thefts of brass doors had also taken place at cemeteries in nearby municipalities.
Suspects were identified and the Forest Park Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division collaborated with investigators from the Hillside Police Department, LaGrange Park Police Department, Westchester Police Department and Justice Police Department to locate and apprehend the cemetery theft offenders.
Two offenders were arrested and felony charges were approved by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office on July 18, 2026 for incidents that occurred in the Village of Forest Park.
John Kozeluh, 49 years of age, of Westchester, Illinois was charged with two counts of Violation of the Cemetery Protection Act/Remove Cemetery Item for Resell, two counts of Theft and two counts of Criminal Damage to Property.
Lana Grey, 38 years of age of Westchester, Illinois was charged with Violation of the Cemetery Protection Act/Remove Cemetery Item for Resell, Theft, and Criminal Damage.
Kozeluh and Grey were also charged with crimes committed in other jurisdictions.
This arrest is the result of dedicated police work, open communications and teamwork amongst all the departments involved.
