This an alert to increase awareness for residents of Forest Park regarding home repair fraud incidents.
On April 23, 2023 at approximately 10:21am a work crew approached the home of a senior resident on the 1100 block of Elgin Ave. advising that they were supposed to perform home repair work for a neighbor, but the job was cancelled. They were unsolicited and asked if the home owner needed any work done to his roof since they were now without the roofing job they were supposed to do for the neighbor. The resident requested the crew take on a painting job and a contract was signed. The contractors then asked about performing siding work. The work crew did not perform the paint work requested and damaged the property while “inspecting” the siding. Fortunately, the home owner did not suffer a monetary loss.
It should be noted that the leader of this crew had an Irish accent per the resident and the company was called Uptown Remodeling, LLC. It is believed that this group is currently active in the area.
Forest Park residents should be aware of home repair fraud scams targeting senior citizens. Inform your relatives or neighbors, particularly senior citizens, not to approve work to their homes with contractors who arrive at their houses unsolicited. Be particularly skeptical of workers who show up unexpectedly and demand cash up front for work or decline taking checks.
Most home repair fraud incidents that we learn about involve cement work, foundation repair, tuck pointing, driveway seal coating and driveway repair though the scams, as we saw on April 23, 2024 are not limited to this type of work.
