Officer Miller was selected to be our department’s next K-9 officer in January of 2011. Officer Miller began his training on April 18th at the TOPS Kennels located in Grayslake Illinois where he was paired up with his K-9 partner Officer Bear. On November 17, 2011 it was decided that Bear was not progressing in certain areas of his training so TOPS Kennels recommended to the department and Officer Miller that he be matched with another K-9 partner. TOPPS Kennels advised they had another K-9 which was already trained and was available to our department. On November 17, 2011 Officer Miller turned over Bear to TOPS Kennels and was matched up with his new K-9 partner, Diesel. Diesel is a two- year- old male German Sheppard who has excelled in the areas of narcotics detection, articles searches, tracking and criminal apprehension. Officer Miller and Diesel continue to train in each of the areas with TOPS and on their own. The department has made Officers Miller and Diesel available to all police agencies requesting K-9 assistance. TOPS found a good home for Bear who was sold to a private citizen for personal protection.
