The Field Training and Evaluation Process utilized by the Forest Park Police Department is based on a nationally accepted program, which is designed to assist new officers in making the transition from the police academy environment to the practical policing application. There are currently 12 state certified training officers within the police department. The Probationary Officer is evaluated each day for the first 12 weeks and placed into a “Shadow” period for the next 4 weeks. Once the Probationary Officer satisfactorily completes this portion of training they are released on their own for solo patrol. The Probationary Officer will be monitored in their patrol until the time they complete their probation period.
